About Lover

Lover is the seventh studio album by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, released on August 23, 2019, through Republic Records. As the executive producer, Swift enlisted producers Jack Antonoff, Louis Bell, Frank Dukes, and Joel Little for the project. It is her first album after parting ways with Big Machine Records. Inspired by the connections felt with fans during her Reputation Stadium Tour (2018), Swift sought to make an album with bright and lighter tones by delving deep into her personal life, in contrast to the dark sound of its predecessor, Reputation (2017). The result was Lover, which celebrates the full spectrum of love. Swift defined the album "a love letter to love itself". It also incorporates politically charged themes, such as feminism, disillusionment and LGBT rights. Lover is primarily a 1980s retro-styled pop record that combines synth-pop, electropop and pop rock with influences from country, funk, folk and punk. Contemporary critics received Lover with mostly positive reviews. Praise centered on Swift's songwriting conveying emotional maturity, while a few critics found the album sprawling and inconsistent. The album contains collaborations with Brendon Urie and the Dixie Chicks, and was supported by four singles: "Me!", "You Need to Calm Down", "Lover", and "The Man", the first three of which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. In the United States, Lover was Swift's sixth number-one album on the Billboard 200 and was certified double platinum. All of its 18 tracks charted simultaneously on the Hot 100, breaking the all-time record for most simultaneous entries. The album topped the charts in several other countries, including Canada, Australia, Ireland, Norway, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. At the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, the album received a nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album, and its singles "You Need to Calm Down" and "Lover" were nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year, respectively. Lover won Favorite Pop/Rock Album at the American Music Awards of 2019, and out of 12 nominations at the MTV Video Music Awards, its music videos won three. Lover was listed as one of the best albums of 2019 by numerous publications.
