Judd Apatow's Funny People is a dark comedy that explores the life of a successful comedian, George Simmons (Adam Sandler), who is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Funny People is not without its flaws, however. At over two and a half hours, the film feels overly long and meandering at times. Additionally, some of the subplots, such as Ira's romantic relationship with a fellow comedian (Aubrey Plaza), feel underdeveloped.

Despite these shortcomings, Funny People is a poignant and thought-provoking film that tackles heavy themes with humor and heart. It is a testament to Apatow's skill as a writer and director that he is able to balance the film's comedic and dramatic elements so effectively.
