About Masterminds

Masterminds is a comedy film directed by Jared Hess and starring Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, Owen Wilson, and Jason Sudeikis. The film is based on the true story of the 1997 Loomis Fargo robbery in North Carolina, which was one of the largest cash heists in U.S. history.

Galifianakis plays David Ghantt, a hapless armored car driver who is convinced by his crush, Kelly Campbell (Wiig), to steal $17 million from his employer. Wilson plays Steve Chambers, the mastermind behind the heist, while Sudeikis plays Mike McKinney, a hitman hired to eliminate the members of the gang.

The film received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising the performances of the cast and the absurd humor, while others criticized the lack of depth in the characters and the predictable plot. Rolling Stone's Peter Travers gave the film two and a half stars out of four, stating that "Masterminds is a one-joke movie that overstays its welcome, but it's hard to resist the comic firepower of Galifianakis, Wiig, Wilson, and Sudeikis."

Despite the mixed reviews, Masterminds was a box office disappointment, grossing only $30 million worldwide against a budget of $25 million. The film was also plagued by production problems, with its release date being delayed multiple times due to the bankruptcy of its distributor, Relativity Media.

Overall, Masterminds is a forgettable comedy that fails to live up to the potential of its talented cast. While it has its moments of absurd humor, it ultimately falls flat due to its predictable plot and lack of depth.
