About Andre Smith
Andre Smith: The Rise and Fall of a Football Star
Andre Smith was born on January 25, 1987, in Birmingham, Alabama. From a young age, he showed a natural talent for football, and by the time he was in high school, he was already being scouted by college recruiters.
In 2006, Smith enrolled at the University of Alabama, where he quickly became a standout player on the football team. He was named a first-team All-American in 2008 and was a finalist for the Outland Trophy, which is awarded to the best interior lineman in college football.
After his junior year, Smith decided to forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft. He was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the sixth overall pick in the 2009 draft, and he quickly became a starter on the team's offensive line.
For the next several years, Smith was one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2011 and helped lead the Bengals to the playoffs in 2011 and 2012.
However, Smith's career took a turn for the worse in 2014. He signed a lucrative contract with the Arizona Cardinals but struggled with injuries and poor performance. He was released by the team after just one season.
Smith bounced around the league for the next few years, playing for the Minnesota Vikings and the Cincinnati Bengals again before finally retiring in 2020.
Despite his early success, Smith's career will always be remembered for its disappointing end. He was a talented player who had the potential to be one of the best offensive linemen in NFL history, but injuries and poor decisions derailed his career.
