He was a Spanish writer known for his work on Séneca o el beneficio de la duda and Carmen, Carmen.

He has four siblings Manuel Gala Velasco, Luis Gala Velasco, Adoración Gala Velasco and Santiago Gala Velasco.

Antonio Gala has worked as a writer, novelist, poet, playwright, prosaist, screenwriter and opinion journalist. He has worked in a poetry, drama, prose and opinion journalism. He has been a member of Academia de las Artes Escénicas de España. He has has won Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts (Spain), Premio Planeta de Novela, honorary doctorate of the University of Cordoba, Hijo Predilecto de Andalucía, Calderón de la Barca National Theatre Award and Castile-La Mancha Gold Medal.
