Bill Kurtis: The Voice of Authority
Bill Kurtis has been a fixture in American journalism for over five decades. Born in Pensacola, Florida in 1940, Kurtis grew up in Independence, Kansas, where his father owned a radio station. After graduating from the University of Kansas with a degree in journalism, Kurtis began his career as a radio announcer in Topeka, Kansas.
In 1966, Kurtis joined CBS News as a reporter and anchor, covering some of the biggest stories of the era, including the Vietnam War and the Watergate scandal. He later moved to NBC News, where he served as an anchor and correspondent for nearly a decade.
Kurtis is perhaps best known for his work as a producer and narrator of true crime documentaries. He co-created the hit series "Cold Case Files" and "American Justice," which aired on A&E for over a decade. His distinctive voice and authoritative presence have made him a beloved figure in the true crime community.
In addition to his work in journalism, Kurtis has also been active in environmental and animal rights causes. He founded the Tallgrass Beef Company, which promotes sustainable farming practices and humane treatment of animals.
Kurtis has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the Peabody Award, the Edward R. Murrow Award, and induction into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame. He continues to work as a journalist and producer, and his voice remains one of the most recognizable in American media.
