About Bob Westfall
Bob Westfall was a legendary American sportsperson, born on May 5, 1919, in Detroit, Michigan. He was a multi-talented athlete who excelled in football, basketball, and track and field. Westfall's athletic prowess earned him a place in the University of Michigan's Hall of Honor.
Westfall's football career was particularly noteworthy. He played as a fullback for the University of Michigan Wolverines from 1940 to 1942, earning All-American honors in his senior year. He was also a member of the 1942 Wolverines team that won the national championship. After college, Westfall played professionally for the Detroit Lions from 1943 to 1947, helping the team win the NFL championship in 1945.
In addition to football, Westfall was also a talented basketball player. He played for the University of Michigan's basketball team and was the team's leading scorer in the 1940-41 season. He also played professionally for the Detroit Falcons in the National Basketball League.
Westfall's athletic abilities extended beyond team sports. He was also a talented track and field athlete, competing in the shot put and discus events. He won the Big Ten Conference championship in the shot put in 1941 and 1942.
Off the field, Westfall was known for his humility and dedication to his community. After retiring from professional sports, he worked as a high school teacher and coach in Michigan. He was also active in his local church and served as a deacon.
Bob Westfall passed away on March 14, 1980, at the age of 60. He is remembered as one of the greatest athletes in University of Michigan history and a beloved member of his community.
