About Charley Foy
Charley Foy was a true pioneer of the vaudeville era, born on June 12, 1898, in New York City. He was the youngest of seven children, and his parents were both vaudeville performers. Foy began performing at a young age, and by the time he was a teenager, he was already a seasoned performer.
Foy's big break came in 1922 when he joined the Ziegfeld Follies. He quickly became a fan favorite, known for his comedic timing and his ability to play multiple instruments. Foy's success in the Follies led to a successful career in vaudeville, and he became one of the most popular performers of his time.
In addition to his work in vaudeville, Foy also appeared in several films, including "The Big Broadcast" and "College Swing." He was also a regular on radio shows, including "The Chase and Sanborn Hour" and "The Rudy Vallee Show."
Foy's personal life was just as colorful as his professional career. He was married four times and had six children. His second wife was the famous vaudeville performer, Deaconess Josephine "Josie" Sadler, with whom he had three children.
Foy's career began to decline in the 1940s, as vaudeville began to lose popularity. He continued to perform, but his appearances became less frequent. Foy passed away on December 31, 1949, at the age of 51.
Despite his relatively short career, Charley Foy left a lasting impact on the world of entertainment. He was a true pioneer of vaudeville, and his comedic talents continue to inspire performers to this day.
