About Chris Matthews
Chris Matthews: From CFL to Super Bowl Hero
Chris Matthews was born on October 6, 1989, in Long Beach, California. He grew up playing football and basketball, but it was on the gridiron where he excelled. After a standout career at Dorsey High School, Matthews went on to play college football at the University of Kentucky.
Despite his impressive college career, Matthews went undrafted in the 2011 NFL Draft. He signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent but was released before the start of the season. Matthews then spent time with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League (CFL) before signing with the Seattle Seahawks in 2014.
Matthews made an immediate impact in Seattle, catching four passes for 109 yards in his first game with the team. He finished the regular season with 12 catches for 109 yards and a touchdown. However, it was in the playoffs where Matthews made his mark.
In the NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers, Matthews caught a crucial onside kick that helped the Seahawks complete a historic comeback. In Super Bowl XLIX, Matthews had a breakout performance, catching four passes for 109 yards and a touchdown. Despite the Seahawks' loss to the New England Patriots, Matthews' performance earned him widespread recognition and a spot in Super Bowl history.
After his Super Bowl heroics, Matthews signed with the Baltimore Ravens but struggled to make an impact. He then spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers before retiring from football in 2018.
Matthews' journey from undrafted free agent to Super Bowl hero is a testament to his perseverance and determination. His legacy will forever be remembered in Seattle and in the annals of Super Bowl history.
