About Colin Greenwood
Colin Greenwood, the bass player for Radiohead, was born on June 26, 1969, in Oxford, England. He grew up in a musical family, with his father being a jazz musician and his mother a classical cellist. Colin started playing bass in his teens and formed a band with his younger brother, Jonny.
In 1985, Colin and Jonny met Thom Yorke, Ed O'Brien, and Phil Selway while attending Abingdon School. They formed a band called On a Friday, which later became Radiohead. Colin's bass playing is a crucial part of Radiohead's sound, providing a solid foundation for the band's experimental and often complex arrangements.
Over the years, Colin has become known for his innovative use of effects pedals and his ability to create unique sounds on his bass. He has also contributed to the band's songwriting, co-writing several tracks on their albums.
Outside of Radiohead, Colin has collaborated with other musicians, including Scott Walker, PJ Harvey, and R.E.M. He is also an advocate for environmental causes and has worked with organizations such as Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace.
In a Rolling Stone interview, Colin spoke about the band's creative process, saying, "We're always trying to find new ways of making music, new ways of expressing ourselves. It's not always easy, but it's always exciting."
Colin Greenwood's bass playing has been a vital part of Radiohead's sound for over three decades. His innovative approach to the instrument and his contributions to the band's songwriting have helped make them one of the most influential and beloved rock bands of all time.
