About Demetria McKinney
Demetria McKinney: From Tyler Perry's House of Payne to R&B Stardom
Demetria McKinney is a multi-talented performer who has made a name for herself in the worlds of acting and music. Born in 1981 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, McKinney grew up in a military family and moved frequently throughout her childhood. Despite the challenges of constantly changing schools and making new friends, McKinney discovered her passion for singing and performing at an early age.
After graduating from high school, McKinney pursued her dream of becoming a professional singer and moved to Atlanta, Georgia. There, she began performing in local clubs and caught the attention of Tyler Perry, who cast her in his hit TV series House of Payne. McKinney played the role of Janine Payne for six seasons, earning critical acclaim for her portrayal of a troubled but resilient mother.
While working on House of Payne, McKinney continued to pursue her music career and released her debut single "Get Yo Ish" in 2012. The song showcased her powerful vocals and soulful R&B sound, and earned her a loyal fan base. McKinney followed up with her debut album, "Officially Yours," in 2017, which featured collaborations with artists like Kandi Burruss and Da Brat.
In addition to her work in music and television, McKinney has also appeared in several films, including "Daddy's Little Girls" and "Breaking Up is Hard to Do." She has also been recognized for her philanthropic work, supporting organizations like the Lupus Foundation of America and the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
As McKinney continues to evolve as an artist and performer, she remains committed to using her platform to inspire and uplift others. "I want to be a voice for people who don't have one," she says. "I want to use my art to make a difference in the world."
