Farina's big break came when he was cast as a mobster in Michael Mann's 1981 film "Thief." Mann was so impressed with Farina's performance that he cast him in his TV series "Miami Vice" as Detective Joe Fontana. Farina went on to star in numerous films and TV shows, including "Get Shorty," "Snatch," "Law & Order," and "New Girl."

Despite his tough-guy persona, Farina was known for his kindness and generosity. He was a devoted family man and a loyal friend to many in the entertainment industry. He was also a passionate sports fan, particularly of the Chicago Cubs and Bears.
