About Doug Supernaw
Doug Supernaw was a country music singer-songwriter born on September 26, 1960, in Bryan, Texas. He grew up listening to classic country music and began playing guitar at the age of 13. Supernaw moved to Nashville in the mid-1980s to pursue a career in music.
Supernaw's breakthrough came in 1993 with his debut album, "Red and Rio Grande," which spawned four top 40 hits, including "Reno" and "I Don't Call Him Daddy." The album went platinum and earned Supernaw a nomination for Top New Male Vocalist at the 1994 Academy of Country Music Awards.
Supernaw's follow-up album, "Deep Thoughts from a Shallow Mind," was released in 1994 and produced the hit single "What'll You Do About Me." The album also went gold.
Supernaw continued to release albums throughout the 1990s, including "You Still Got Me" and "Fadin' Renegade," but his success began to wane. He took a hiatus from music in the early 2000s but returned in 2007 with the album "In the Real World."
Supernaw's personal life was marked by struggles with alcoholism and legal issues. He was arrested multiple times for driving under the influence and was involved in a high-profile custody battle with his ex-wife over their daughter.
Supernaw was diagnosed with stage IV lung and bladder cancer in 2019 and passed away on November 13, 2020, at the age of 60.
Despite his personal struggles, Supernaw's music remains a beloved part of the country music canon. His honest, heartfelt lyrics and traditional sound continue to inspire new generations of country artists.
