About Erni Mangold

Erni Mangold: The Austrian Actress Who Defied the Odds

Erni Mangold, born on January 25, 1927, in Groß-Weikersdorf, Austria, is a true icon of the Austrian film industry. With a career spanning over six decades, Mangold has become a household name in Austria and beyond, thanks to her exceptional talent and dedication to her craft.

Mangold's journey to becoming an actress was not an easy one. Born into a working-class family, she had to overcome numerous obstacles to pursue her passion for acting. Despite her parents' objections, Mangold enrolled in the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna, where she honed her acting skills and made her stage debut in 1947.

Over the years, Mangold has appeared in numerous films, TV shows, and stage productions, earning critical acclaim and a loyal fan base. Some of her most notable roles include her portrayal of Frau Kast in the 1984 film "Morgen in Alabama," for which she won the Best Supporting Actress award at the German Film Awards, and her role as Frau Schmitz in the 2008 film "The Reader."

Mangold's talent and dedication to her craft have not gone unnoticed. In 2013, she was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, First Class, in recognition of her contributions to the Austrian film industry.

Despite her success, Mangold remains humble and grounded, always putting her craft first. In an interview with the Austrian newspaper Der Standard, she said, "Acting is not about being a star or making money. It's about telling stories and touching people's hearts."

As Mangold celebrates her 94th birthday, her legacy as one of Austria's greatest actresses continues to inspire generations of aspiring actors and actresses.
