Her breakthrough role came in 1960, when she starred in the Broadway production of "The Best Man," alongside Henry Fonda and Cliff Robertson. Her performance earned her critical acclaim and led to her being cast in several films, including "The Balcony" (1963) and "The War Lord" (1965).

In 1966, Evans married director John Frankenheimer, with whom she had two children. The couple worked together on several projects, including the film "Grand Prix" (1966), which Frankenheimer directed and Evans produced. The film was a critical and commercial success, and Evans' work as a producer earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Throughout the 1970s, Evans continued to work in film and television, appearing in a variety of roles. She starred in the cult classic "The Big Cube" (1969), as well as the horror film "Frogs" (1972). She also appeared in several television shows, including "The Love Boat" and "Fantasy Island."

Despite her success, Evans' personal life was marked by tragedy. In 1977, her husband John Frankenheimer died of a heart attack at the age of 47. Evans continued to work in the industry, but her career slowed down in the 1980s and 1990s.

Evans passed away on December 20, 2011, at the age of 75. She is remembered as a talented actress and producer, who made a significant impact on the entertainment industry during her career.
