About Georges Niang
Georges Niang: The Iowa State Cyclone Turned NBA Star
Georges Niang was born on June 17, 1993, in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Growing up, Niang was a standout basketball player, leading his high school team to a state championship in 2011. He then went on to play for Iowa State University, where he became one of the most beloved players in Cyclones history.
During his time at Iowa State, Niang was a two-time All-American and a three-time All-Big 12 selection. He led the Cyclones to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 run in 2014. Niang finished his college career as Iowa State's all-time leading scorer and one of the most decorated players in program history.
Despite his success in college, Niang was not selected until the second round of the 2016 NBA Draft, where he was picked 50th overall by the Indiana Pacers. He spent his first two seasons bouncing between the Pacers and their G League affiliate, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
In 2018, Niang signed with the Utah Jazz, where he finally found a permanent home in the NBA. He quickly became a fan favorite in Utah, known for his energy, hustle, and deadly three-point shooting. In the 2020-21 season, Niang had a breakout year, averaging 6.9 points per game and shooting 42.5% from beyond the arc.
Off the court, Niang is known for his outgoing personality and love of music. He often shares his favorite songs and artists on social media, and has even been known to break out into song during interviews.
Georges Niang may not have been a high draft pick, but he has proven himself to be a valuable player in the NBA. With his deadly shooting and infectious personality, he has become a fan favorite in Utah and a rising star in the league.
