About Jackée Harry
Jackée Harry is a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment industry. Born on August 14, 1956, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Harry moved to New York City in the late 1970s to pursue her dreams of becoming an actress. She quickly made a name for herself in the theater world, earning critical acclaim for her performances in productions like "A Broadway Musical" and "The Lady and the Clarinet."
In 1983, Harry landed her breakout role as Sandra Clark on the hit sitcom "227." Her portrayal of the sassy, quick-witted neighbor earned her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 1987, making her the first African American woman to win the award in that category.
After "227" ended in 1990, Harry continued to work steadily in television and film. She appeared in shows like "Sister, Sister," "Everybody Hates Chris," and "The First Family," as well as movies like "The Ladies Man" and "You Got Served." In 2019, she joined the cast of the daytime soap opera "Days of Our Lives" as Paulina Price.
Off-screen, Harry has been an advocate for various causes, including HIV/AIDS awareness and education. She has also been an outspoken supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, and in 2019, she was honored with the Human Rights Campaign's Ally for Equality Award.
Throughout her career, Harry has proven herself to be a versatile and talented performer, equally adept at comedy and drama. Her infectious energy and larger-than-life personality have made her a beloved figure in the entertainment world, and her legacy as a trailblazer for women of color in Hollywood is undeniable.
