John Robinson: The Coach Who Changed the Game
John Robinson was born on July 25, 1935, in California. He grew up playing football and went on to become one of the most successful coaches in the history of the sport. Robinson's career spanned over four decades, during which he won two national championships and four conference titles.
Robinson began his coaching career in 1960 as an assistant coach at Oregon. He then moved on to become an assistant coach at Fresno State and USC, where he helped lead the Trojans to two national championships in the 1970s. In 1976, Robinson was named head coach at USC, where he would spend the next nine seasons.
During his tenure at USC, Robinson led the Trojans to three Rose Bowl victories and a national championship in 1978. He also coached several future NFL stars, including Marcus Allen, Ronnie Lott, and Anthony Munoz. Robinson's success at USC earned him a reputation as one of the best coaches in college football.
After leaving USC in 1986, Robinson spent two seasons as head coach of the Los Angeles Rams. He then returned to USC in 1993 for another five seasons, during which he won two more conference titles. Robinson retired from coaching in 1997, but his impact on the sport is still felt today.
