About Ken Norton
Ken Norton was a heavyweight boxer who made a name for himself in the 1970s. Born on August 9, 1943, in Jacksonville, Illinois, Norton was raised in a military family and spent much of his childhood moving around the country. He eventually settled in San Diego, California, where he began his boxing career.
Norton was known for his powerful left hook and his unorthodox fighting style. He was a tough opponent for anyone who stepped into the ring with him, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the best heavyweights of his time.
Norton's biggest moment came in 1973, when he faced off against Muhammad Ali in a highly anticipated bout. Despite being a heavy underdog, Norton managed to break Ali's jaw in the early rounds of the fight. Although Ali managed to finish the fight, Norton was declared the winner by split decision.
Norton and Ali would go on to fight two more times, with Ali winning both rematches. However, Norton had already cemented his place in boxing history with his victory over Ali in their first bout.
Norton retired from boxing in 1981 with a record of 42 wins, 7 losses, and 1 draw. He later became an actor and appeared in several films, including "Mandingo" and "The A-Team."
Norton passed away on September 18, 2013, at the age of 70. He will always be remembered as one of the greatest heavyweights of his time, and his victory over Muhammad Ali will go down as one of the most memorable moments in boxing history.
