About Loretta Swit
Loretta Swit, born on November 4, 1937, is an American actress best known for her role as Major Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan in the television series M*A*S*H. Swit was born in Passaic, New Jersey, and grew up in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City and began her career in theater.
Swit made her television debut in 1969 on the series Hawaii Five-O and went on to appear in numerous television shows and films. However, it was her role as Major Houlihan in M*A*S*H that made her a household name. Swit played the character for all 11 seasons of the show, from 1972 to 1983, and won two Emmy Awards for her performance.
In addition to her acting career, Swit is also an animal rights activist and has been involved with numerous animal welfare organizations. She has also written a book, SwitHeart: The Watercolour Artistry & Animal Activism of Loretta Swit, which features her watercolor paintings and raises awareness for animal welfare.
Swit has been recognized for her contributions to the entertainment industry and animal welfare. She was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2011 and received the Betty White Award from the Actors and Others for Animals organization in 2017.
Despite her success, Swit remains humble and grateful for her career. "I'm just so grateful for the opportunities that I've had," she said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "I've had a wonderful career, and I'm still going strong."
