About Martin Sheen
Martin Sheen: The Activist Actor
Martin Sheen, born Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez on August 3, 1940, in Dayton, Ohio, is an American actor with a career spanning over five decades. He is best known for his roles in Apocalypse Now, The West Wing, and The Departed.
Sheen's acting career began in the 1960s, and he quickly gained recognition for his performances in films such as The Subject Was Roses and Badlands. However, it was his portrayal of Captain Benjamin Willard in Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now that cemented his status as a Hollywood icon.
In addition to his successful acting career, Sheen has been an outspoken activist for social and political causes. He has been arrested over 60 times for his participation in protests, including those against nuclear weapons, the Vietnam War, and the Keystone XL pipeline.
Sheen's activism is rooted in his Catholic faith, and he has been a vocal advocate for social justice issues such as immigration reform and climate change. He has also been a supporter of the Democratic Party and has campaigned for several Democratic candidates, including Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
Despite his busy schedule, Sheen has always made time for his family. He has been married to his wife, Janet Templeton, since 1961, and they have four children, including actors Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen.
In 2018, Sheen was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, recognizing his contributions to the entertainment industry and his activism. He continues to act and advocate for causes he believes in, proving that he is not just a talented actor, but also a passionate and dedicated activist.
