About Marvis Frazier

Marvis Frazier was born on October 9, 1960, in Beaufort, South Carolina. He is the son of former heavyweight champion Joe Frazier and his wife Florence Smith. Marvis grew up in a boxing family and started training at a young age.

Marvis had a successful amateur career, winning the National Golden Gloves in 1979 and 1980. He turned professional in 1980 and won his first 10 fights by knockout. Marvis was known for his speed and footwork, but lacked the power of his father.

In 1981, Marvis faced heavyweight champion Larry Holmes in a highly anticipated fight. However, Holmes dominated the fight and knocked out Marvis in the first round. Marvis never fully recovered from the loss and retired from boxing in 1986 with a record of 19 wins and 2 losses.

After retiring from boxing, Marvis became a minister and started his own church in Philadelphia. He also worked as a motivational speaker and helped young people stay away from drugs and violence.

Marvis has had a complicated relationship with his father, who was known for his tough love and strict training methods. In a 2011 interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer, Marvis said, "My father was a great champion, but he wasn't a great father. He was always on the road, always training. But I still love him."

Marvis continues to inspire others through his ministry and motivational speaking. He is a reminder that even in the face of defeat, one can still find purpose and meaning in life.
