Mike Auret: The Zimbabwean Activist and Politician Who Fought for Justice
Mike Auret was born on December 14, 1936, in Zimbabwe. He was a man who dedicated his life to fighting for justice and equality in his country. Auret was a prominent activist and politician who played a significant role in the struggle against apartheid in South Africa and the liberation of Zimbabwe.
Auret was a member of the African National Congress (ANC) and was involved in the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. He was arrested and detained several times for his activism, but he never gave up the fight. In the 1970s, Auret became involved in the liberation struggle in Zimbabwe and was a member of the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU).
Auret was a key figure in the negotiations that led to the Lancaster House Agreement in 1979, which paved the way for Zimbabwe's independence in 1980. He was also a member of the first parliament of Zimbabwe and served as the Minister of Information and Tourism.
Auret continued to be a vocal advocate for human rights and democracy in Zimbabwe, even after he left politics. He was a founding member of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Association and served as its chairman for many years. He also worked as a consultant for various international organizations, including the United Nations.
Auret passed away on August 22, 2018, at the age of 81. He was remembered as a fearless and tireless advocate for justice and equality in Zimbabwe and beyond. His legacy continues to inspire activists and politicians around the world.
