About Mike Connors
Mike Connors, the ruggedly handsome actor best known for his role as private detective Joe Mannix in the hit TV series "Mannix," was born Krekor Ohanian on August 15, 1925, in Fresno, California. His parents were Armenian immigrants who owned a grocery store, and Connors grew up speaking Armenian at home.
After serving in the Army during World War II, Connors attended UCLA on the GI Bill and studied theater. He began his acting career in the early 1950s, appearing in films such as "Sudden Fear" and "Island in the Sky." He also had a recurring role on the TV series "Tightrope."
But it was his role as Joe Mannix that made Connors a household name. The show, which ran from 1967 to 1975, was a hit with audiences and critics alike, earning Connors a Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Drama Series in 1970.
Connors continued to work in television and film throughout the 1980s and 1990s, appearing in shows such as "Airwolf" and "Walker, Texas Ranger," as well as films like "Too Scared to Scream" and "Nightkill."
In addition to his acting career, Connors was also a skilled basketball player and played for the UCLA Bruins during his college years. He was inducted into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006.
Connors passed away on January 26, 2017, at the age of 91. He is remembered as a talented actor and a beloved figure in the entertainment industry.
