Growing up, Richardson was exposed to the world of acting and theater, and it was no surprise that she pursued a career in the same field.

Richardson made her acting debut in 1984 in the film "Every Picture Tells a Story." She went on to star in several other films, including "The Handmaid's Tale," "Nell," and "The Parent Trap." She also had a successful career in theater, appearing in productions such as "Cabaret" and "Anna Christie."

In addition to her acting career, Richardson was also involved in humanitarian work. She was a supporter of several charities, including amfAR, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the American Foundation for AIDS Research.

Tragically, Richardson's life was cut short in 2009 when she suffered a head injury while skiing in Canada. She was taken to a hospital but died the following day at the age of 45.
