About Nehemiah Persoff
Nehemiah Persoff is a true Renaissance man. Born in Jerusalem in 1919, he moved to the United States with his family when he was a child. After serving in the Army during World War II, Persoff began his acting career on Broadway in the late 1940s. He quickly made a name for himself as a versatile character actor, appearing in films like "An American Tail," "Some Like It Hot," and "The Comancheros."
But Persoff's talents don't stop there. In the 1960s, he began painting, and his work has been exhibited in galleries across the country. His paintings often depict scenes from his childhood in Jerusalem, as well as landscapes and still lifes.
Despite his success in both acting and painting, Persoff has remained humble and grounded. He once said, "I don't consider myself a star. I'm just a working actor." But his contributions to both fields have not gone unnoticed. In 2000, he was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for his achievements in the arts and his dedication to promoting cultural understanding.
Now in his 100th year, Persoff continues to inspire and entertain. His legacy as an actor and painter is a testament to his talent and hard work, and his commitment to his craft is an inspiration to us all.
