About Nelly

Nelly, born Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. on November 2, 1974, in Austin, Texas, is a Grammy-winning rapper, singer, and songwriter. He rose to fame in the early 2000s with his debut album, "Country Grammar," which sold over 10 million copies worldwide.

Growing up in St. Louis, Missouri, Nelly was heavily influenced by the city's hip-hop scene. He formed the St. Lunatics, a rap group, in the mid-1990s, and they released their debut album, "Free City," in 2001.

Nelly's solo career took off with the release of "Country Grammar" in 2000. The album's title track became a massive hit, reaching No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The album also spawned hits like "Ride wit Me" and "E.I." and earned Nelly a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album.

Nelly's follow-up albums, "Nellyville" and "Sweat/Suit," were also commercial successes, with hit singles like "Hot in Herre," "Dilemma" (featuring Kelly Rowland), and "Over and Over" (featuring Tim McGraw).

In addition to his music career, Nelly has also dabbled in acting, appearing in films like "The Longest Yard" and "Reach Me." He also starred in his own reality TV show, "Nellyville," which aired on BET from 2014 to 2015.

Despite his success, Nelly has faced his share of controversies over the years. In 2017, he was arrested on charges of second-degree rape, but the charges were dropped after the accuser refused to testify. He has also been involved in legal disputes over taxes and unpaid debts.

Despite these setbacks, Nelly remains a beloved figure in the hip-hop community, known for his catchy hooks, smooth flow, and infectious energy. As he once said in an interview with Rolling Stone, "I just want to make music that people can feel and relate to."
