Phife Dawg, born Malik Isaac Taylor on November 20, 1970, was a legendary rapper and member of the influential hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest. He was known for his smooth flow, clever wordplay, and witty lyrics that often touched on social issues.

Growing up in Queens, New York, Phife Dawg met Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad in high school, and the trio formed A Tribe Called Quest in the late 1980s. The group's debut album, "People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm," was released in 1990 and was a critical and commercial success.

Phife Dawg's contributions to the group's subsequent albums, including "The Low End Theory" and "Midnight Marauders," helped cement A Tribe Called Quest's place in hip-hop history. He was known for his distinctive voice and playful rhymes, which often referenced his love of sports and his struggles with diabetes.

Despite the group's success, Phife Dawg struggled with health issues throughout his life. He underwent a kidney transplant in 2008 and continued to battle complications from diabetes. He passed away on March 22, 2016, at the age of 45.

Phife Dawg's legacy lives on through his music and the impact he had on the hip-hop community. He was a pioneer in the genre and will always be remembered as one of the greatest rappers of all time.
