About Reese Witherspoon
Reese Witherspoon: The Southern Belle Who Conquered Hollywood
From her breakout role in "Election" to her Oscar-winning performance in "Walk the Line," Reese Witherspoon has been a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood for over two decades. Born in New Orleans and raised in Nashville, Witherspoon's Southern charm and wit have made her a beloved figure both on and off screen.
Witherspoon got her start in show business at a young age, appearing in commercials and small roles in TV shows and movies. But it was her turn as the ambitious and conniving Tracy Flick in "Election" that put her on the map. The film was a critical and commercial success, and Witherspoon's performance earned her a Golden Globe nomination.
From there, Witherspoon went on to star in a string of hits, including "Legally Blonde," "Sweet Home Alabama," and "Walk the Line." The latter film, in which she played country music legend June Carter Cash, earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress.
But Witherspoon's success hasn't been limited to the big screen. In 2017, she starred in and produced the hit HBO series "Big Little Lies," which earned her an Emmy nomination for Best Actress in a Limited Series.
Off screen, Witherspoon has become a powerful advocate for women in Hollywood. In 2016, she founded the production company Hello Sunshine, which focuses on telling female-driven stories. She has also been a vocal supporter of the Time's Up movement, which aims to combat sexual harassment and inequality in the entertainment industry.
Witherspoon's personal life has also been the subject of much media attention. She was married to actor Ryan Phillippe from 1999 to 2007, and the couple has two children together. In 2011, she married talent agent Jim Toth, with whom she has a son.
Through it all, Witherspoon has remained true to her Southern roots and her commitment to telling stories that matter. As she told Rolling Stone in a 2017 interview, "I want to make things that are meaningful and that people can connect to, and that's always been my goal."
