About Rex Walters
Rex Walters: The Basketball Maverick
Rex Walters was born on March 12, 1970, in Omaha, Nebraska. He grew up playing basketball and became a star player at Northwestern University. After college, he was drafted by the New Jersey Nets in 1993 and played for several NBA teams over the next decade.
But Walters' true passion was coaching. He began his coaching career as an assistant at the University of Florida in 2006 and quickly moved up the ranks. In 2012, he was named head coach at the University of San Francisco, where he led the team to its first NCAA tournament appearance in 16 years.
Walters' coaching style is known for its intensity and focus on fundamentals. He is a demanding coach who expects his players to give their all on the court. But he also has a deep understanding of the game and a talent for developing young players.
Off the court, Walters is known for his dedication to his family and his faith. He is a devout Christian who has spoken openly about his beliefs and their role in his life and career.
Despite his success as a coach, Walters has faced his share of challenges. In 2019, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and underwent surgery to remove the tumor. But he remained positive and focused on his recovery, and he returned to coaching just a few months later.
Today, Walters continues to coach at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he is known for his passion and dedication to the game. He is a true maverick in the world of basketball, and his legacy as a player and coach is sure to endure for years to come.
