About Robert Blake
Robert Blake: The Troubled Life of a Hollywood Rebel
Robert Blake was born Michael James Gubitosi on September 18, 1933, in Nutley, New Jersey. He started his career as a child actor in the 1930s, appearing in films such as "Our Gang" and "Red Ryder." However, it was his role as the streetwise detective Tony Baretta in the 1970s TV series "Baretta" that made him a household name.
Blake's career was marked by both success and controversy. He won critical acclaim for his performances in films such as "In Cold Blood" (1967) and "Electra Glide in Blue" (1973), but he was also known for his volatile temper and run-ins with the law.
In 2001, Blake was charged with the murder of his wife, Bonnie Lee Bakley. He was acquitted of the murder charge in 2005 but was found liable for her wrongful death in a civil trial and ordered to pay $30 million in damages.
Blake's personal life was also marked by tragedy. His first wife, Sondra Kerr, died of cancer in 1961, and his second wife, Bonnie Lee Bakley, was murdered in 2001. Blake has four children, two from each marriage.
Despite his legal troubles, Blake remains a respected actor and a Hollywood icon. He continues to work in the film and television industry, with recent appearances in the films "Lost Highway" (1997) and "Hell's Kitchen" (2017).
