Rochelle Aytes was born on May 17, 1976, in Harlem, New York. She grew up in a family of Haitian descent, and her parents instilled in her a strong work ethic and a love for the arts. Aytes attended LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where she honed her acting skills.

After graduating from college, Aytes moved to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career. She landed her first role in the television series "Sex and the City" in 2003. She then went on to appear in several other popular TV shows, including "ER," "The Forgotten," and "Criminal Minds."

In 2009, Aytes landed a breakthrough role in the ABC drama series "The Forgotten." She played Grace Russell, a detective who investigates cold cases. The show was short-lived, but Aytes' performance was praised by critics.

Aytes continued to defy stereotypes in Hollywood by taking on roles that challenged the traditional portrayal of black women. In 2013, she starred in the Lifetime movie "The Client List," playing a single mother who turns to prostitution to support her family. The movie was controversial, but Aytes' performance was once again lauded.

Aytes has also appeared in several films, including "Madea's Family Reunion" and "Trick 'r Treat." She has also done voice work for the video game "Mass Effect 3."
