About Ron Parker
Ron Parker: The Underrated Cornerback Making a Name for Himself
Ron Parker was born on August 17, 1987, in St. Helena Island, South Carolina. Growing up, Parker was a multi-sport athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and track. However, it was football that would ultimately become his passion and lead him to a successful career in the NFL.
Parker attended Newberry College, a Division II school in South Carolina, where he played both cornerback and safety. Despite going undrafted in 2011, Parker signed with the Seattle Seahawks as a free agent and spent the majority of his rookie season on the practice squad.
Over the next few years, Parker bounced around the league, spending time with the Oakland Raiders, Carolina Panthers, and Kansas City Chiefs. It wasn't until he returned to the Chiefs in 2013 that he finally found a home and began to make a name for himself.
In 2015, Parker started all 16 games for the Chiefs and recorded four interceptions, 12 passes defended, and 78 tackles. His standout performance earned him a five-year, $30 million contract extension with the team.
Despite being one of the league's most underrated cornerbacks, Parker has continued to prove himself on the field. In 2018, he recorded two interceptions, nine passes defended, and 68 tackles, helping the Chiefs reach the AFC Championship game.
Off the field, Parker is known for his philanthropic work, including his annual backpack giveaway in his hometown of St. Helena Island. He also founded the Ron Parker Youth Football Camp, which provides free football instruction to children in the area.
As Parker continues to make a name for himself in the NFL, he remains humble and focused on improving his game. "I'm always trying to get better," he said in a 2018 interview with The Kansas City Star. "I'm always trying to learn something new."
