About Scott Thompson
Scott Thompson: The Canadian Comedian Who Pushed Boundaries
Scott Thompson was born on June 12, 1959, in North Bay, Ontario, Canada. He grew up in a conservative Catholic family, but he was always drawn to the world of comedy. Thompson's career began in the 1980s when he joined the Toronto-based comedy troupe, The Kids in the Hall.
The Kids in the Hall was a groundbreaking sketch comedy group that pushed boundaries and challenged social norms. Thompson was known for his outrageous characters, including the flamboyant Buddy Cole, a gay bar owner who became a fan favorite. Thompson's portrayal of Buddy Cole was groundbreaking at the time, as it was one of the first times a gay character was portrayed in a positive light on television.
After The Kids in the Hall ended in 1995, Thompson continued to work in television and film. He appeared in numerous shows, including The Larry Sanders Show, The Simpsons, and Hannibal. He also had a recurring role on the hit show, Arrested Development.
Thompson's comedy often tackles controversial topics, including sexuality, religion, and politics. He has been praised for his ability to make audiences laugh while also challenging their beliefs. Thompson has also been open about his own struggles with addiction and mental health, and he has used his platform to raise awareness about these issues.
In addition to his work in comedy, Thompson is also an accomplished writer. He has written for numerous publications, including The Globe and Mail and The Huffington Post. He has also written two books, Buddy Babylon: The Autobiography of Buddy Cole and The Hollow Planet.
Thompson's impact on comedy and popular culture cannot be overstated. He has been a trailblazer for LGBTQ+ representation in media and has inspired countless comedians to push boundaries and challenge social norms. Thompson continues to work in the entertainment industry and shows no signs of slowing down.
