About Shawn Crahan
Shawn Crahan, also known as "Clown," is a percussionist, filmmaker, and founding member of the Grammy-winning metal band Slipknot. Born on September 24, 1969, in Des Moines, Iowa, Crahan grew up in a musical family and began playing drums at a young age.
In 1995, Crahan co-founded Slipknot with fellow percussionist Joey Jordison and vocalist Corey Taylor. The band's unique sound, characterized by aggressive percussion and intense live performances, quickly gained a following. Slipknot's self-titled debut album was released in 1999 and was followed by several more successful albums, including "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)" and "All Hope is Gone."
Crahan's contributions to Slipknot go beyond his percussion skills. He is also known for his theatrical stage presence, often wearing a clown mask and performing stunts during live shows. In addition, Crahan has directed several of the band's music videos and has been involved in the production of their live shows.
Outside of Slipknot, Crahan has worked on various side projects, including the band Dirty Little Rabbits and the film "Officer Downe," which he directed. He has also collaborated with other musicians, including Korn and Marilyn Manson.
Crahan's impact on the metal music scene has been recognized with numerous awards, including a Grammy for Best Metal Performance in 2006 for Slipknot's song "Before I Forget." He has also been praised for his contributions to the band's visual and theatrical elements.
Despite his success, Crahan has faced personal struggles, including the death of his daughter Gabrielle in 2019. He has been open about his grief and has used his platform to raise awareness about mental health and addiction.
Shawn Crahan's career as a percussionist and filmmaker has been marked by innovation and creativity. His contributions to Slipknot have helped to shape the metal music scene, and his work outside of the band has demonstrated his versatility and artistic vision.
