About Syed Shahid Hakim
Syed Shahid Hakim, born on June 23, 1939, is a legendary association football player hailing from India. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers to have ever played for the Indian national team.
Hakim's football journey began in the early 1950s when he started playing for local clubs in his hometown of Kolkata. He quickly caught the attention of scouts and was soon signed by the prestigious East Bengal Football Club. Hakim's talent and skill on the field were undeniable, and he quickly became a fan favorite.
In 1960, Hakim was called up to the Indian national team, and he went on to represent his country in numerous international tournaments. He was a key player in India's historic win over South Korea in the 1964 Asian Cup, scoring the winning goal in the final.
Hakim's career was not without its challenges, however. He suffered a serious knee injury in 1966, which forced him to take a break from football for several months. Despite this setback, he returned to the field stronger than ever and continued to play at the highest level for several more years.
After retiring from football, Hakim remained involved in the sport as a coach and administrator. He was instrumental in the development of football in India and played a key role in the establishment of the Indian Super League.
Hakim's contributions to Indian football have not gone unnoticed. He has been honored with numerous awards and accolades, including the prestigious Arjuna Award in 1970 and the Padma Shri in 1991.
Today, at the age of 82, Hakim remains a beloved figure in Indian football. His legacy as one of the greatest players in the country's history is secure, and his impact on the sport will be felt for generations to come.
