About Thomas Morstead

Thomas Morstead: The Punter Who Changed the Game

Thomas Morstead was born on March 8, 1986, in Pearland, Texas. He grew up playing football and soccer, but it wasn't until high school that he discovered his true calling as a punter. Morstead's powerful leg and accuracy quickly caught the attention of college recruiters, and he ultimately chose to attend Southern Methodist University.

During his time at SMU, Morstead established himself as one of the best punters in the country. He was a two-time All-Conference USA selection and set several school records, including the longest punt in school history (77 yards). In 2009, he was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the fifth round of the NFL Draft.

Morstead quickly became a fan favorite in New Orleans, not just for his punting skills but also for his philanthropic work. In 2010, he founded the Thomas Morstead Foundation, which provides support and resources to children battling cancer. He has also been heavily involved in the community, volunteering his time and resources to various causes.

But it was Morstead's performance in Super Bowl XLIV that truly cemented his legacy. In the fourth quarter of the game, with the Saints leading the Indianapolis Colts by seven points, Morstead executed a surprise onside kick that caught the Colts off guard and helped secure the victory for New Orleans. The play has since been dubbed "Ambush" and is considered one of the greatest moments in Super Bowl history.

Morstead's success on the field and his dedication to giving back have earned him numerous accolades, including the 2018 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. He continues to play for the Saints and is widely regarded as one of the best punters in the NFL.
