About Growing Pains
Growing Pains was a beloved family sitcom that aired from 1985 to 1992. The show followed the Seaver family, headed by psychiatrist Jason Seaver (Alan Thicke) and his wife Maggie (Joanna Kerns), as they navigated the ups and downs of raising their three children: Mike (Kirk Cameron), Carol (Tracey Gold), and Ben (Jeremy Miller).
The show was a hit with audiences, thanks in part to its relatable characters and heartwarming storylines. It tackled issues like teenage rebellion, peer pressure, and family dynamics with humor and sensitivity, making it a favorite among viewers of all ages.
One of the show's standout performances came from Kirk Cameron, who played the rebellious and charming Mike Seaver. Cameron's portrayal of the character earned him a legion of fans and made him a teen heartthrob in the 80s.
Despite its popularity, Growing Pains faced some controversy during its run. In 1989, Tracey Gold entered treatment for anorexia, which led to her character being written out of the show for a time. Additionally, the show's handling of social issues like homosexuality and abortion was criticized by some viewers.
Despite these challenges, Growing Pains remains a beloved classic of 80s television. Its themes of family, love, and growing up continue to resonate with audiences today, making it a timeless favorite.
