About Saved by the Bell: The College Years
Saved by the Bell: The College Years was a spin-off of the popular teen sitcom Saved by the Bell. The show followed the lives of Zack, Screech, Slater, Kelly, and Jessie as they navigated their way through college.
The show premiered in 1993 and ran for only one season, but it was a hit with fans of the original series. The College Years tackled more mature themes than its predecessor, including relationships, sex, and drugs.
The cast of Saved by the Bell: The College Years was a mix of familiar faces and new characters. Mark-Paul Gosselaar reprised his role as Zack Morris, while Dustin Diamond returned as Screech. Mario Lopez played A.C. Slater, and Tiffani Thiessen played Kelly Kapowski. Elizabeth Berkley also returned as Jessie Spano, but only for a few episodes.
The new characters included Samantha, a smart and ambitious student who caught Zack's eye, and Mike, a football player who became Slater's roommate. The show also introduced a new principal, played by Bob Golic.
Despite its popularity, Saved by the Bell: The College Years was canceled after just one season. The show's creators had planned to continue the series, but they were unable to secure a time slot on NBC.
Saved by the Bell: The College Years may not have lasted long, but it remains a beloved part of the Saved by the Bell franchise. Fans continue to watch the show on streaming services and DVD, and it has even inspired a reboot, which premiered on Peacock in 2020.
